War In Iran Heating Up With USA

The secret war with Iran continues under Obama.  Even tough we haven’t claimed any official foots on the ground (so we’re told), it’s common knowledge that the Iran cyber war is full steam ahead.  We continue to push them when we can with public words and UN sanctions, however, one day the time will come that a bomb will be needed.  Israel has already drew the red line and that line will be pushed over under the next four years under Obama.  Sanctions and diplomacy hasn’t worked in 4+ years and we all know that it will continue to be brushed off by Iran Officials.  Since Israel always supported our wars and provided support as a partner so the US as a nation will be obligated to show them the support when it’s required to get physical.

So how is Obama going to deal with this situation.  There is no doubt Iran isn’t going to stop and we can only do so much about it for now.  In my opinion I view Iran like Iraq.  We believe something is going on over there and they “may” have something now or in the future which could be used against us.  We went into Iraq for the same exact reason.  That didn’t turn out to be true, however.  In hindsight, many believe Iraq shouldn’t have been invaded by President George Bush.  Of course that is easy to say looking back at something in history.  At the time of the invasion, many supported it and were still Keep Reading

Legalization Of Same-Sex Marriage Approved In Washington State

Gay Flag

Washington State will become the first state to legalize same-sex marriage with a popular vote of the public.  Other states have passed same-sex marriage with their court system; however, it has never passed from a popular vote like Washington State has now.  32 states have tried and failed to legalize it before.

As of 10:30p.m the numbers were very close, however, the win and legalization of same sex marriage is only minutes away and fully expected to pass.  Capital Hill is party central right now.  Many proud supporters are celebrating not only the win for Obama but the victory of Referendum 74 (gay marriage rights).

This measure will make history in this state.  Same-Sex couples can apply for marriage licenses as early as December 6th, 2012.  Governor Christine Gregoire will enact legislation on February 13, 2012, which will confer comprehensive marriage rights to same-sex couples within the state, endorsing equality and inclusivity in matrimonial laws.

Supporters of the law raised nearly $12 million.  That is 5x the amount their opponents raised.  It was also the most raised compared to any other campaign on the ballot.

Update: It passed! On a Wednesday that marked a pivotal moment in legislative history, a bill legalizing gay marriage in Washington state garnered its final legislative approval, primarily supported through a party-line vote. This step poised Washington on the verge of becoming the seventh state in the U.S. to legally recognize same-sex marriages. Eager to sign the measure, Washington’s Democratic Governor, Christine Gregoire, anticipated “putting into law an end to an era of discrimination.” However, opposition, predominantly from religious conservatives, pledged to pursue its repeal in the forthcoming November polls. This approval from the state House of Representatives occurred just a day after advocates for gay marriage in California celebrated a significant legal triumph when a voter-backed gay marriage ban was deemed unconstitutional by a federal appeals court.

The legislation in Washington successfully traversed the state House of Representatives with a 55-43 vote, following its passage in the state Senate by a 28-21 vote just a week prior. With Democrats—holding the majority in both legislative bodies in Olympia—predominantly backing the bill, it also drew endorsement from notable Washington-based corporations, such as Microsoft, Amazon, and Starbucks, who collectively employ tens of thousands of workers in the state.

Republicans Own The House 4 More Years

As we continue the path of 4 more years with President Obama (re-elected on 11/6/12), he was one big problem and that is the Republicans.  The Republicans also held their position in the House 4 more years.  This has been a major road block for Obama.  A lot of the bills and changes Obama wanted to move forward never made it pass the House.  This was one of the main reasons I supported a new candidate.  Obama will continue to be road blocked by the House.  The House continues to express this to the Democrats that any measures given to them which raises taxes a dime, will not be support or moved along the House.

And that my friends is why we are looking at 4 more years of the same from Obama.  If he could have done early – it would have been done.

Barack Obama Re-Elected For Second Term

The game is over and the masses have spoken.  Barack Obama has been re-elected for a second term.  At this time, it appears he will win the popular vote (barely) and the electoral vote which means another 4 years.

What will another 4 years bring us?  Well I hope it was better than the last 4 years.

The Republicans will hold the House again.  In short, more of the same except another 4 years.  Congratulations.

Presidential Election Day

Tuesday Nov. 6th is the big day.  It’s time for the presidential election.  First up Obama with the poorest record in history or Mitt Romney and his trust funds.  The presidential pick is yours – so who are you picking?  I’m sure either way we are screwed but I’m putting my “hope” with Romney this round.  I believe many fell the same way.  I have heard many changing gears to support the other side of the team.  The main reasons I will be supporting Romney is due to the fact Obama has the poorest record in history to date.  You can look at jobs, economy, or gas number they are all down compared to when he started.  Foreign policy is joke.  Second, the republicans won’t support any of his bills which means he simply won’t be able to get anything accomplished without their support and that is not going to happen in the next 4 years should he be re-elected.  Third and most importantly – Obama Care.  I really don’t need the extra bills in my life which will easily be $1,000 or more per year for health care for myself.  If not acquired, I will be fined (taxed without saying it) by the IRS!  The IRS will manage the program by the way.  It’s all just shady.  The idea is also bad for jobs.  Not just my job and life but everyone’s if you have one.  If you’re employed now you’re job will be evaluated should Obama be elected due to Obama Care and the new business expenses involved.  With that being said, my support is going to Mitt Romney.

I found myself even more engaged this year compared to any other year that is for sure.  I actively participated in all the debates and listen intensively.  The first debate was a game changer and just verified my reason to vote for Romney.  He manhandled President Obama.  The others were even in my opinion.  Biden may have got the edge on Paul Ryan which I didn’t see coming.  Joe Biden came off as a rude old man, however, he was more of an authority figured which hurt Mr. Ryan I think.   Obama tried to get more aggressive on the second attempt however it wasn’t enough to change anything.  There was one point where Mitt Romney told him to sit down and Obama did it like a scolded little kid.  Third debate was even with Romney trying not to over do it while keeping everything even.

I must say I am happy to see that the presidential election day is finally here.  The radio, tv, telephone message have become a real pain.  I am tired of the complaining, fighting, and lying from both sides just to persuade votes.  On Tuesday, all this garbage will be done with and we can move on to bigger and better things whomever our President turns out to be.  I’m also excited to pick on all the mistakes of the next president who ever that maybe.  Vegas odds have Obama winning by a large margin.  In the event Obama does take the election (which I don’t think is going to happen), it certainly wont be by the popular vote.

Washington State Measures – How I’m Voting

I have been looking at some of the State Measures and wanted to share a few with you on the Emerald City Journal Newspaper.  These are my thoughts on why I am supporting them or voting against them.  I highly recommend you consider each one and read their descriptions.  Your views may differ compared to mine.

Here we go!

Seattle Proposition 1 – (Against)

 – Regarding the Seattle seawall project.

Senate Joint Resolution No. 8223 – (Against)

– Regarding letting Universities invest our public funds into the stock market or other companies.

Initiative Measure No. 502 – (Supported)

– Regarding the use of marijuana.

Initiative Measure No. 1240 – (Against)

– Regarding opening charter schools.

Initiative Measure No. 1185 – (Supported)

– Regarding a larger majority approved vote to raise taxes.

Advisory Vote No. 2 (Substitute House Bill 2590)

 – “The legislature extended, without a vote of the people, expiration of a tax on possession of petroleum products and reduced the tax rate, costing $24,000,000 in its first ten years, for government spending.”

Washington State Liquor No More

The Washington Liquor Control Board who once had a monopoly of all liquor sold in Washington State will be auctioning off the remaining inventory on Thursday.  Approximately 15,000 cases of alcohol will be sold to the highest bidder.  They stated it’s value is over $1 million dollars.  That seems kind of high to me personally that would mean each bottle averages over $66.50.  I highly doubt it.  After these are sold the state will work to auction off the distribution center which is self appraised at $30 million dollars.  I sure would like to self appraise my house.

You’ll obviously need a liquor license to participate in this “sweet deal of a lifetime”.  Plus, a $5K cashier check on your person for a deposit.

Word on the streets is that all the people who participated in the last auction paying hundreds of thousands of dollars for a liquor store are not doing so well right now.  Several have closed already.  Which would make sense.  The state had a monopoly and now it’s in every store.  Plus, you started your business several hundreds of thousands of dollars in the hole.  Not sure why anyone would pay that much for a bad investment.  If you run into one of these people send them my way – I got a house to sell them.

Now if only we could get rid of most of Washington Liquor Control Board.

Fife City Council – Not Easy Being GREEDY!

I believe most people are honest working people.  Many work hard for their money.  They do their 9 to 5 jobs and come home to family or friends for a few hours then it’s back to work in the morning.  We are a nation that “lives to work”.  Very few have the luxury of enjoying the benefits of their labor and gets to actually just “live”.  It’s a nation of people who grind it out.  Our minds are filled with numbers, math, money, bills, and creditors.  With that being said, let me introduce you to the armpit of the Northwest – Fife Washington.  The people seem as nice as every other city, however, the council and police officers are working hard to get every drop of money they can out of you.

The speed traps in Fife are arguably the worst in the nation.  Only a few mph over the limit of 25 and you’ll experience the Officer friendly on the side of the road.  I have discussed this topic with many people and you just mention the word “Fife” and the conversation automatically goes to the hatred of the City, Policies, and stringent traffic laws.  If they live here they hate it.  Visitors hate it also and many would never live here for the that reason.  In fact, many avoid it and simply go around.  Can’t blame them for that.  The policies of this small town make it bad place to live or even visit by many.

Fife Washington has approximately 9,200 residents.  The red light cameras are shameful.  They alone last year generated 2.9 million gross blood money revenue for the City Of Fife.   I’m not writing this out of anger nor have I ever been ticketed in Fife (or anywhere), however, this is a clear example of a City just abusing it’s powers.  It certainly doesn’t make me want to visit.  I will be the first to admit that I have ran a few orange lights in my time.  It wasn’t because I was in a hurry or felt I could get away with it.  In realty slamming on the breaks half way would not only put me in more danger but others also.  Should I get a ticket for $130 in the mail for that?  I have heard many are getting several PER DAY.  There are several mysterious “rules” the red light cameras follow also.  For example if you are making a right turn, stop at the red light, then make your right turn (as you would normally/legally once clear) you can still get ticketed.  It depends where you stopped exactly.  It must be behind the white line.  If you stopped after the white line, the camera will get you.

When Fife started their red light camera program the Fife City Council voted to only use the extra blood money revenue for public safety.  It wouldn’t be used to support general fund expenses. However, last Tuesday they voted to do just that.  They will use the revenue to pay for a officer on duty.  The Fife City Council approved it by majority.  One Council Member voted no saying its a slippery slope from here.  He is obviously correct on that because this is how greed starts and how Cities spend money foolishly.  They get dependent on it.  The Mayor of Fife, Rob Cerqui, said it was a “minor tweak” and was consistent with safety.  I guess paying your officers because the money isn’t available in the general fund is now a safety issue.  Next thing you know they’ll be getting new police cars, fancy fire trucks, more cameras, safety inspectors, crosswalk flaggers, street toll to check for DUI’s…. look I can make things up just like you can.  Get serious and admit you pulled a fast one on the public.  This money should goes to schools.  More specifically it should go to Teachers (not management) and student supplies.

Here is the bigger problem with Fife Washington and their greedy Council / Policies and that is the fact that the city’s sales tax revenue is down 50%.   It was $8 million 6 years ago and it’s approximately $4.5 million this year.  They of course blame it on the recession.  The facts are people don’t like coming here because of the GREED.  The excuse of the recession is garbage.  In 4 more years they’ll still be “hoping” for change.  It’s all down hill from here folks for this city and why anyone would even visit this city is beyond me.  It makes absolutely no sense at all.  There is nothing extra special about Fife that the other surrounding cities can’t provide (with less cameras and risk).

Before making excuses about why your sales tax revenue is down or continues to go down each year Fife City Council, you may want to look at yourself and try to fix a few things.  If not, you’ll find out everyone has moved, doesn’t visit anymore, and you’re all alone with just your greedy policies and fancy cameras.  The buck stops with you.

**UPDATE 3/29/16 – User submitted feedback

Fife Red Lights – A few years ago I spoke to the City Manager in Fife because of how tickets are given for red lights in that city. My mom and I had stopped for a red light and I’d gotten a ticket because apparently in Fife you have to stop completely behind the white line or a ticket will follow. The City Manager had one of the police officers he said he “trusted” look at my video and the officer verified that I should have gotten a ticket. Several friends and family looked at my video and said there was no way I’d run the light. Since then I’ve spoken to several people who won’t do business in Fife anymore because of how many tickets they’ve gotten there for running red lights. One couple used to go to a restaurant in Fife every Sunday until they got so many red light tickets that they started eating elsewhere. They swear that they did not run the lights. Last night at Bible study I spoke to a woman whose son-in-law went to court last week for a red light ticket in Fife. The family had all seen his video and said, like me, there was no way he ran the red light. His fine was reduced in court but they said they had reviewed his video also and that he had run the red light. It’s absurd. I was also told last night of a man from California who had pulled off the freeway in Fife and had gotten a red light ticket there also. He was so angry he wrote to a local Tacoma newspaper when he got home from his trip to warn other travelers of the danger of driving in Fife. I’ve spoken to many people since I got my ticket who have my story. They are as frustrated as I am and stay away from Fife as much as possible, as I do. I know that businesses in Fife have lost customers because of the city’s red light policy (I do mean stop lights). If they don’t know about the problem they should be made aware. Something is wrong there. Police policies need to be reviewed. In Fife’s Traffic Division quote online it says, “There is a common misconception that writing tickets generates revenue for the police department. This is not the case. The actual purpose is to educate, and enforce for the safety of other motorists and pedestrians.” The truth is that they are just plain greedy. The city needs to welcome shoppers with open arms instead of chasing them away. This is my second letter of complaint about the city. If more people would complain we might make some headway in stopping this nonsense.

Can Felon’s Vote?

If you’re incarcerated, on parole, or community supervision, you are NOT eligible to exercise your right vote.  If you’re out of jail/prison, you’re eligible to vote but you’ll need to re-register again.  You may only vote in one state and will need to be a resident of Washington.

If you were convicted in another state, you are eligible to vote as long as you’re out of jail/prison.

If you have a misdemeanor conviction or a conviction in juvenile court then you’re still eligible to vote in Washington State.

If you’re a felon and still unsure, you can call Washington State Department of Corrections (DOC) directly at:  1-800-430-9674.  They will answer any specific questions you may have.

Advisory Vote No. 2 (Substitute House Bill 2590)

This is on the table and I do support it.  It’s a tax break, however, I do think it’s justified.  We all know our tax system is messed up and more complicated than a 10,000 piece puzzle.  That is why I have to pay people to manage it for me quarterly and yearly.  I shouldn’t have to do that!  I think measures used to less complicated things should be installed and that means less measures complicating the system.  I understand we are not lose some money here for taxes, however, the tax was unfair as it was.  I don’t believe some people or business owners should pay more for what they do or who they are.  That includes the taxing the rich which I don’t support.

Even Though this should have gone to a public vote and not just eliminated without anyone knowing, I do support the expiration of the tax.
